Mutual Fund Manager is a ClarisWorks spread sheet that will automatically compute you profits and losses from mutual fund sales. It is based upon the average category method for all assets in a fund.
All you have to enter is the purchase price and amount when you buy or the sales price and amount when you sell. Enter a "-" sign before the amount when you sell so the program recognizes this transaction as a sale not a buy. Additionally, when distributions are declared you enter these as a regular purchase and the program automatically computes your new average share price. When you sell it recognizes that your average share price doesn't change since it is only based upon purchases and computes your profit or (loss). In the last column you will see, rounded to whole $, the net gain or loss of a single transaction. This is the number to report to the IRS as your capital gain or loss for this sale of fund shares.
I don't own a lot of those fancy programs for financial management since you spend so much time entering and maintaining data so I built this just to manage my mutual funds that I have. You need to create one file for each fund and there is a header to enter account information like the name of fund and the account number or phone number as necessary. The cells are not protected so be careful on erasing or make a copy of this file before you start.
